R.I.P. Tom Riding 1933 - 2019
This website is dedicated to Tom who was a true gentleman and a legend in the road haulage industry.
Without his invaluable knowledge, help, enthusiasm and dedication it would not have been possible for us all to share in the detailed history of W & J Riding.
The funeral of the late Thomas William Riding took place on Monday the 22nd of July 2019 at St Lawrence’s C of E Parish Church in Longridge
Pictured above W & J Riding’s preserved Atkinson Borderer tractor unit Reg No PTC 440K ‘Faithful’ was used to carry Tom’s coffin from his home in nearby Ribchester to the church in Longridge.
W & J Riding’s preserved Atkinson Borderer tractor unit Reg No PTC 440K ‘Faithful’ which is now owned by Tony Brierly of Great Harwood near Blackburn.
Tony was kind enough to supply his Atkinson for Tom’s funeral which is seen here at St Lawrence’s C of E Parish Church in Longridge after transporting Tom’s coffin from his family home in nearby Ribchester.
Tom was a life long Preston North End football fan and along with his wife Margaret they never missed a home game and also traveled to many away games over the years.
The club paid him a nice tribute at Saturdays home game against Wigan on the 10th of August 2019 as can be seen in this picture.
Preston North End did him proud beating Wigan 3-0
